• Ultra High Definition TV (UHDTV) has arrived and provides images with at least four times the resolution of 2K. But we’re not stopping there, as 5K, 6K, and even 8K displays are now coming to market. UHD is already having an impact on the AV world, as witnessed by all of the claims for products to be 4K certified and 4K ready. But what do those designations actually mean? Are they truthful? Current display interfaces are barely fast enough for basic implementations of 4K signal transportation. And now we have a new codec (HEVC H.265) in our bag of tricks. Do we need it, or is H.264 fast enough for 4K over IP?
