Electro-Voice and Prosound help Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium Prepare for 2010 FIFA World Cup

Preparations for the 2010 FIFA World Cup are gathering pace in South Africa, as the newly constructed Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth – one of the key venues for the tournament – has been installed with an impressive sound reinforcement system comprising an abundance of Electro-Voice loudspeakers.

The new stadium will play host to five first-round matches, one second-round, one quarter final and the third-place playoff in the World Cup, which is taking place at a series of stadiums located around the country. The futuristic soccer stadium is incorporated into a multi-purpose facility specifically designed to serve the community for years to come. Prosound of Johannesburg was charged with the full design and implementation of the audio system, working under main consultant Di-Data.

The design features 56 Electro-Voice FRX 15-inch horn-loaded coaxial loudspeaker systems driven in a combination of passive and bi-amped configurations. 136 Electro-Voice EVID FM4.2 flush-mounted speaker systems were used in the under-balcony area, where the spectators are shaded from the main speaker clusters.
